The internet is baffled by this optical illusion of six girls with only five pairs of legs.

Optical illusions can really drive you mad. No matter how hard you try to avoid being “fooled” by them, it’s nearly impossible because it all relates to your brain. A recent optical illusion that has left the internet puzzled features a photo of six girls lounging on a couch. Yet, there are only five pairs of legs visible. How can that be? Let’s explore!

Optical illusions never cease to amaze me – and now, one of them is mystifying the whole internet as well. According to the Queensland Brain Institute, an optical illusion occurs “when our brain and eyes attempt to communicate in simple terms, but the interpretation gets a little jumbled.”

It also stated, “For instance, it may interpret that our eyes have indicated something is in motion, but that’s not the message the eyes intended to convey to the brain. (Our brains and eyes have developed to be quite alert to movement because, in ancient times, being able to detect movement quickly was crucial. A slight noise in the bushes could signal a nearby predator, and it was essential to flee. Early detection of movement could be a lifesaver!)

On Reddit, one particular optical illusion has become a sensation. The image depicts six girls on a couch, but only five pairs of legs are visible. It seems as though one girl is lacking a pair of legs, and users on the forum have been attempting to uncover the mystery.

According to The Tab, one individual commented, “The second girl’s legs are positioned behind the first girl’s legs,” indicating that the girl sitting second from the left conceals her legs behind the one who is farthest left. Although it’s not visible, this is what makes it a brain teaser.

Optical illusion – discover the ‘missing’ legs

Another user tackled the optical illusion and seemed to have figured it out. User ElMangosto posted his own image along with the solution.

“From left to right, #1, #2, #3, #4. The first girl has her legs crossed, and there’s no tear in her knee. The second girl has just one leg showing, and there’s a tear in her knee. Those legs are merging together. (If you follow that tear down, you’ll see a split where there’s a sock on the right but not on the left. The second girl has a tear in her knee and a visible white sock.) The second and third girls are leaning quite a bit. It’s easier to picture if you imagine #3 with her hand resting on the seat behind #4’s back to support herself,” he explained, and included the “solution.”

Does it make sense? If it doesn’t, it helps me figure out how to view it. Perhaps we can solve this mystery together! Feel free to share this article with your friends on Facebook and see if they can decipher the optical illusion.
